WELCOME TO DRIVE RIGHT, PASS LEFT

Let's Address The Issue

Over the years the biggest criticism I’ve received is that the “Drive Right, Pass Left” philosophy is solely an excuse to speed. That the only reason why people should follow this on the highway is to allow for type-A personality lead foots turn our highways into speedways. To that I answer both yes and no.

Yes, it has been proven in other countries that this rule of the road can be implemented to allow higher vehicle speeds. There is also solid evidence that shows per capita their highway deaths are amongst the lowest in the Western World.

Facts show, you cannot stop speeding. It will always happen and actions designed to curb this tends to only agitate the speeder. Such actions taken on by law enforcement are best, those taken on by civilians only causes road rage. In the end, speeding will happen. However one is best to let them speed in a straight line than having them weave in and out of traffic.

I answer No because “Drive Right, Pass Left” goes beyond speeding and addresses the argument of proper lane usage on our highways. Proper lane usage and common courtesy go hand in hand in helping lower incidents of road rage as well as helps with traffic issues that clog our highways. In short, there is an acknowledgement that our highways are used improperly and the solution is not more highways, but rather in developing proper usage of the highways we already have. It’s a cheaper solution and one that can happen in a year. New highways are often outdated before they are even completed.

That is the goal and direction you’ll see with DriveRightPassLeft.com. More articles, research, and commentary on the system to help educate Americans on why this system has it’s place…and some history of the time it was the rule of the road in America. In short, informative material and links will be found on this site in regards to the overall “Drive Right, Pass Left” highway courtesy. And an informative pamphlet on “Drive Right, Pass Left” will be available soon to educators, government officials, and others who want to know more. Also want to encourage those who do have some research and do know more regarding this to please get in touch.

So remember, be courteous to your fellow highway user. We’ll all feel better and get where we want to go fine….abliet faster too.
